Life Of Ekene Episode 5
By Ahmed Abdulkabir

Ekene was fully aware of nurse Aisha's feelings for him and it was mutual. He moved close to her and tried looking for the imaginary crawling monster on her back. Ekene found nothing, just the beautiful skin of a beautiful lady, the best he had ever seen. Nurse Aisha was spotless beyond definition and effortlessly beautiful. If she was Medusa, the entire world would have died from gazing at her. "Found anything yet?" She asked calmly.
"Em...nothing here Aisha, sure you are not imagining things?". She smiled at Ekene and when he made to  return to his seat, nurse Aisha held his hands firmly. " Don't go" she said quietly. A cold feeling ran down Ekene's spines and sent shockwaves through his entire body. "How can one lady make me feel this way?" Ekene thought to himself. This is something he had never felt before. He was a player alright, but he was always the one sending shockwaves through the spine of ladies and not the other way round.
Nurse Aisha moved closer to him and placed her lips on his. Everything masculine on Ekene's body turned on with so much energy liie a newly commissioned transformer. Then she stopped, looked into his eyes, and saw nothing but unrivaled passion, and fiery desires written all over his eyes. It was obvious, Ekene was completely spellbound. They kissed and caressed for minutes, then Ekene stopped and regained control over himself.
"I'm so sorry for taking advantage of you...I think we should stop, before we both regret our actions" Ekene said, breathing heavily. Nurse Aisha didn't utter a single word, she just stared at him, she was obviously surprised at Ekene's self control. Even as Ekene said this, he was not certain if he was the one who spoke or if something or someone else bigger than him did the talking for him. "Are you mad? See free food for you, chop this thing and go" said a voice in his head. "It's just not right. Ask this lady out and when you guys are serious about the relationship, you can consummate your love afterwards." Said another voice. The first voice broke into his thoughts again. "You are a renowned play boy. This is your area of specialization. Do the needful and move on." The second voice interrupted the first, "It's obvious that you both love each other sincerely. Give her a chance and follow your heart". The last three words kept echoing in Ekene's head. " What's wrong with you, Ekene?" Nurse Aisha asked, feeling bad and rejected.
Ekene was sitting quietly, hands on his head, like a pupil being counselled by the the village headmaster after being punished for coming late to school. Nurse Aisha continued, "or don't you find me attractive enough? What's wrong with me?". Ekene mustered courage and spoke, " I love you Aisha, I truly do. I have never felt this way with anyone before. You are special to me". After this, there was total silence. They both stared at each other, not knowing the next word to say to each other. Nurse Aisha opened her mouth to speak, but no word came out. Then she broke into tears. Ekene moved to where she was sitting, held her hands, and wiped the tears off her face with his T-shirt. Then he kissed her on the forehead. "I am a married woman,Ekene" nurse Aisha declared, crying again. Ekene was shocked at this revelation and at the same time thankful to the voice in his head for leading him away from committing fornication with another man's wife.
Ekene quietly stood up and started pacing to and fro, hands akimbo. "What the hell was she thinking?" He thought to himself. He wanted to get mad at her and ask her to leave, but he tried to restrain himself. "Why didn't you tell me about this on time?" Ekene asked in a voice that shared a thin line between anger and calmness. Before you start casting aspersions and criticizing her, just let her explain herself. Now  back to the story.
Nurse Aisha apologized to Ekene for not telling him about her husband and her married life generally. That was because her husband had been a pain in her butt. She met him five years ago when she was running her bachelor of nursing degree in the university of Tasmania, Australia. She was a final year student of nursing while he was also a final year student of medicine and surgery, preparing for his internship in Nigeria. He was under scholarship from the government while Aisha was sponsored by her influential father. The duo fell in love and Abdullah told Aisha that he was going to marry her or no one else.
Like I said earlier, he was under scholarship, now here is something I didn't add. His parents were very poor and couldn't afford his tuition fees. They were as poor as church rats. Aisha spoke with her father on Abdullah's behalf and he was given a job in the  hospital owned by Aisha's father. Aisha's father singlehandedly sponsored their wedding and equally gave them a personal house. What else would a man want? And when Aisha's father passed away a year after, he gave the family hospital to Aisha as part of her inheritance while her two elder brothers took the other business ventures left behind by their father, in strict accordance with the will read by his lawyer.
Due to Aisha's love for Abdullah, she renamed the deed of the hospital from her name to Abdullah's. Months after, Abdullah started acting strange towards Aisha and he started womanizing and gallivanting around town with different brands of luxurious automobiles. He became the biggest man in town and was renowned for throwing wild parties and throwing money from his car for people to pick like a campaigning politician.
He squandered the hospital's savings and rendered it bankrupt. As soon as the hospital went out of business, Abdullah left the country and returned to Australia without telling his wife about his decision to relocate. Aisha was told by a close friend of Abdullah that he married a white lady in order to have a resident permit in Australia. After narrating her ordeal to Ekene, she left Ekene's place quietly. Ekene didn't utter a word to her, he just watched as she left. His face was emotionless, one can't say if he was sorry for her or mad at her for not telling him the truth. Then his phone rang, a man with a deep voice spoke.
